This week Wynnum Manly saw severe seafront flooding. The water rose over the edge of the Wynnum Wading pool and into the streets beyond. The Pelican’s Nest by the Bay just managed to keep the water from entering the shop by placing sandbags at the doors. Trees were brought down by the high winds and saturated grounds. Roads have been littered with branches and leaves. Some residents reported power outages for up to 12 hours.
Monday saw many local residents cleaning up the debris. The high sea level left some sea front roads littered with seaweed and the occasional jelly fish. Police blocked some stretches of the Wynnum Esplanade so volunteers could clear the seaweed away, if left to bake in the sun the smell can be quite bad.
