 Wynnum Manly Seafront Flooding

Local News

This week Wynnum Manly saw severe seafront flooding. The water rose over the edge of the Wynnum Wading pool and into the streets beyond. The Pelican’s Nest by the Bay just managed to keep the water from entering the shop by placing sandbags at the doors. Trees were brought down by the high winds and saturated grounds. Roads have been littered with branches and leaves. Some residents reported power outages for up to 12 hours.

Monday saw many local residents cleaning up the debris. The high sea level left some sea front roads littered with seaweed and the occasional jelly fish. Police blocked some stretches of the Wynnum Esplanade so volunteers could clear the seaweed away, if left to bake in the sun the smell can be quite bad.
Picture's taken near the Pelican’s Nest next to the Wynnum Wading pool. Foreshore shop are back open for business.

 Black Jack on the Rocks

Local NewsSudden savage storm puts $600,000 yacht on to the rocks at the mouth of Manly Harbour Wednesday the 8th of February. The Yacht “Black Jack Too” a 42-foot Stallion RP42 ran 2nd overall in the 2010 Queensland IRC Championship but was caught off guard as strong wind and rain struck the Wynnum Manly area. The storm struck just as the yacht was entering Manly Harbour causing it to blow on to the rocks. A crowd gathered to watch the drama as the Coast Guard and crew struggle to get the yacht back into the water.

The brief storm also brought down tree branches and flooded roads in the area.
