 Bay Wave Youth Festival Turning 10

EventsThis year’s event is at Lota Skate park on the 18th of May from 11am-4pm!! Lota Skate Park is located behind the Bayside PCYC on the Cnr of Alexander and MacDonald Sts, Lota. The festival celebrates and recognises the importance and achievements of all young people in the local community and the aim is to create opportunities for showcasing the talents, skills and ideas of local young people. The Festival offers a range of activities, workshops and performances throughout the day for the whole community to enjoy and participate in.

A great festival for our youth to attend and enjoy a day out.

The Gala Opening Night–Edible Music will feature the prodigious talents of the Queensland Virtuosi Orchestra under the baton of musical funnyman, Guy Noble with Queen of the Flute, Jane Rutter, award winning soprano, Taryn Fiebig, Australia’s most exciting virtuoso violinist, Ian Cooper and Italian/Australian tenor extraordinaire, Virgilio Marino. Supporting the musical maestro’s will be ten very special guests, the S.Pellegrino World’s Best Restaurant Chefs, adding flavor and vigor to the magic of the evening.

SN@P is Wynnum’s new hub for creative people!
Are you a Band, Soloist, dancer or dance crew or a short film producer?
Based at 77 Charlotte Street Wynnum SN@P is a new performance space in Wynnum and they are looking for Band, dancers and creative types to fill up once monthly open mic nights. If you are young and creative and want a space to share your talents with others, please contact Chris Richards via email, info@iscreamsound.com for more information.

SN@P open Mic nights are held on the 1 Saturday of every month from 6pm-8pm. SN@P will supply a full sound system, back line and projectors for use by artists. Like us www.facebook.com/snapcollective

 Take two of Aussie spirit @ The Manly!

With the January celebrations a wash out for the greater part of Queensland, The Manly Hotel plans to celebrate our great nation once again and dig deep.
Come and belong at The Manly Hotel on Saturday 23rd February for 'take two' of its Australia Day celebrations in support of the Queensland Hotels Association Keg for a Cause. The Manly Hotel plans to donate 20 cents from each sale of draught beer in the week leading up to the event.

From Monday 18
th February to Saturday 23rd, all monies raised will be matched by The Manly Hotel.
Staying true to the Hotel’s Aussie spirit, publican Sandy McDonald said, “Queenslanders need to stick together and this is a great reason to help our mates”.
Celebrate all things Aussie while enjoying an ice cold refreshment – why not sink your teeth into our famous steak sanga and soak up the rays listening to the live music in our beer garden as well!Show your Aussie spirit, support this great cause and help raise money for those affected by the floods.

 Lapidary Club Open Afternoon

Events17th November 2012
Waterloo Bay Lapidary Club will be holding an Open Afternoon 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm on Saturday 17th November 2012 at our Club Room under the Hemmant Community Hall. All welcome so come and have a look around our Club room.
George Taskmakis will have a collection of most minerals commonly known to factors available for sale. Also cabbing grade purple/lavender jadeite from Turkey, which is quite rare. Come by train to Hemmant Station and then just cross the road, or by car to Cnr. Ramsay Road and Brand Street Hemmant. Car parking available.

The Waterloo Bay Lapidary Club will be holding their 45th Annual Gem Show 1st September 2012 at the Hemmant Community Hall Hemmant- Tingalpa Road Hemmant.
Everyone welcome, come by train to Hemmant Station, cross the road to the Hall. Come by vehicle to Ramsay Road and Brand Street Hemmant 4174
On display will be work done by members throughout the year

Hall Traders and Tailgaters will have some wonderful items for sale -Minerals - Rocks - Fossils - Opals, some in the rough, others highly polished and set in silver or gold.
Refreshments available throughout the day.

Lapidary Clubs serve a wide range of the community and by joining them, members not only learn to polish rocks and stones but also faceting gemstones and designing and fabricating unique silver and gold jewellery at an affordable cost. Children in particular are generally fascinated by the variety of coloured rocks and stones.
Entry $3.00. Pensioners $2.00. Under 12 years free.

 Wynnum Manly Jazz Festival 2012

EventsOn September 2nd, 2012, the annual Wynnum Manly Jazz Festival will be held at Bandstand Park, (below Gordon Parade), Manly, on the Esplanade.
This annual event is on Fathers Day and is a great day for all the family with activities for the children, food and drink stalls and prizes. Bring your own chairs, or rugs to sit on, and enjoy the jazz and the surroundings in the park on the waterfront.

The program will be:
11 am – 11.45 am Ipswich RSL Youth Band
12 noon to 1 pm The All Star Jazz Jammers
1.15 pm to 2.15 pm Royal Australian Navy Band
3.45 pm to 4.30 pm SCAT

Pops Walk Around Band will play between performances.
This event is an annual event, sponsored by Brisbane City Council. (In it is raining, the festival will be held at a future date.)

 Protecting Your family Online - Free Cybersafe Information Evening

EventsStatistics are telling us that a high number of children are accessing adult websites online. As parents we need to be able to have strategies for how to protect our children from what they can view online no matter what device they are using. To help parents Cybersafe247 is hosting a free information evening on Monday night the 18th June at the Wynnum Manly Leagues Club from 7 pm to 8 pm.

During the night two of Cybersafe247 online educators Tony Fawaz and Troy Beer will be educating parents on the effects that accessing porn online has on children and what you can do as a parent to protect them.

 History Alive at Fort Lytton

EventsNext weekend, June 9th and 10th, is the History Alive celebration at Fort Lytton, which is just some 6 kms from Wynnum. There is no public transport to the Fort, however, it should take just 10 to drive from Wynnum. This Fort will come alive with historical re enactments, celebrations of our history and much more.

The gates open at 9:30am with Fort Lytton’s 64-pounders firing at 10am.

It is a great family outing - with so much colour and excitement.
