Fort Lytton National Park - Living History Weekend
On Saturday 7 June and Sunday 8 June the grounds of Fort Lytton National Park will come alive with 2000 years of history. The Fort is one of Queensland's most important heritage sites (and one of the least known). Its stories, embodying the themes of defence, health and immigration, are reflected in the unique buildings and hidden structures inside its boundaries. Fort Lytton is not just a rare 19th century Fort designed to protect Brisbane from attack. It was also known in the early 20th century, as the Lytton Quarantine Station and was used to protect Brisbane from disease. (One of the buildings is now the Wynnum Rugby Union Club house).
Fort Lytton National Park is a fascinating site to explore. In use throughout both World Wars, it provides a stimulating background to History Alive: a Journey through Time.
Book your tickets now for the two days or just one - a family pass for the weekend is $45 so go online and find out more at www.historyalive.com.au. You can purchase tickets at the gate.

Gonski Rally - For the Children
A rally was held in Brisbane Roma Street Parklands today to show support for the Gonski Education funding reforms. Speakers Wayne Swan Deputy Prime Minister and Rachael Jacobs from the Greens gave passionate speeches on the importance of education and children being the most important investment we can make.
The Gonski Review is the most comprehensive investigation of the way schools are funded in Australia in almost 40 years. It was commissioned by the Federal Government and conducted by an expert panel headed by senior businessman David Gonski.
Gonski found Australia is investing far too little in education and, in particular, in public schools. As a consequence, too many students are missing out on the resources they need and there are growing gaps in the achievements of students from different backgrounds.
Gonski recommended a $5 billion a year injection of funding into public and private schools (75 per cent to public schools) and an overhaul of the way the money is distributed to ensure it is going where it is most needed.
Our state leaders are still to sign up to the Gonski funding reforms causing Queensland students to miss out on billions of dollars of much needed extra funding. Speekers Wayne Swan Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, Rachael Jacobs is the Greens candidate for the seat of Brisbane at the 2013 Federal Election.
Show your support, send a message to Campbell Newman, send an email and sign the petition. igiveagonski.com.au
