Gonski Rally - For the Children
A rally was held in Brisbane Roma Street Parklands today to show support for the Gonski Education funding reforms. Speakers Wayne Swan Deputy Prime Minister and Rachael Jacobs from the Greens gave passionate speeches on the importance of education and children being the most important investment we can make.
The Gonski Review is the most comprehensive investigation of the way schools are funded in Australia in almost 40 years. It was commissioned by the Federal Government and conducted by an expert panel headed by senior businessman David Gonski.
Gonski found Australia is investing far too little in education and, in particular, in public schools. As a consequence, too many students are missing out on the resources they need and there are growing gaps in the achievements of students from different backgrounds.
Gonski recommended a $5 billion a year injection of funding into public and private schools (75 per cent to public schools) and an overhaul of the way the money is distributed to ensure it is going where it is most needed.
Our state leaders are still to sign up to the Gonski funding reforms causing Queensland students to miss out on billions of dollars of much needed extra funding. Speekers Wayne Swan Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, Rachael Jacobs is the Greens candidate for the seat of Brisbane at the 2013 Federal Election.
Show your support, send a message to Campbell Newman, send an email and sign the petition. igiveagonski.com.au
