 | Events: A Roaring 50 Years |
The Moreton Bay Lion’s Club has reached an impressive milestone this month. 50 years of dedication and commitment is evident in the many wonderful achievements they have accomplished for the community. The Moreton Bay Lion’s Club began in April 1956, with 21 men and one vision. A vision which has seen members of the Club devoting their time and labour to their international motto, we serve.
Anniversaries offer the opportunity to reflect upon where we have been and where we are going and the Moreton Bay Lion’s Club has certainly etched a path of high success for current members to follow.
Right from their first project, painting a fence at the Margaret Marr home for boys, the Lion’s have shown a passion for helping those in the community less fortunate then themselves by providing humanitarian services to the area and beyond.
Throughout the years the Club has provided financial support to many individuals and organisations within the local, state, national and international communities. Local organisations that have benefited include the Waterloo Bay Sailing Club, Wynnum Soccer Club, Blue Nursing Services, Bayside and Darling Point Sea Scouts, Princess Alexandra Hospital and more.
A fully equipped crash wagon was donated to the Wynnum branch of the Queensland ambulance Transport Brigade along with a variety of life saving equipment, while Lion’s members, with countless other volunteers, also assisted in the relief and restoration after the floods of 1974. The Lion’s run excellent aged programs, and many youth projects including Leo clubs and Youth of the Year.
Peter HO District Governor recognizes the Club’s sponsorship of ten Lions Clubs, five school based Leo Clubs and two community based Leo Clubs. “This is a proud record that is certainly difficult to match by any Lions Clubs through out Australia.”
With such accomplishments behind them, Lion’s members can be justifiably proud of their involvement in the Lion’s organization. As Ross Vasta our federal member for Bonner states in his letter of congratulations, “A Club’s greatest asset is its people and I know that the Moreton Bay Club is comprised of volunteers who selflessly give of their time to try and make the lives of others easier.”
The Moreton Bay Lion’s Club has reason to be proud of their 50 years of service and we both thank and congratulate those who have contributed to the Club and its many valuable endeavors. Congratulations and all the best for the future.
