 Greens: From Bayside to Baxter

Elissa Local GreensThe Bayside Branch of the Queensland Greens is sponsoring a seat on the bus from Brisbane to the Baxter 05 Convergence for a student or unemployed person who has access to a video camera and is happy to videotape the Greens’ involvement.

The national convergence on Baxter Detention Centre is a demonstration against long-term detention of asylum seekers, some of whom have been behind bars for 6 years.

 Greens: Greens Hit Ground Running

Elissa Local GreensTHE GREENS have hit the ground running for the federal election called today by prime minister John Howard and are confident of having a strong presence in the next parliament.

The party is standing candidates in all House of Representatives seats around the country as well as a Senate team in each state and territory.

Greens candidate for Bonner, Elissa Jenkins, said she would be campaigning on big national issues such as the Iraq conflict, truth in government, services before tax cuts, the US Free Trade Agreement and the need to protect the environment.

Greens: Meet The Greens candidate at Chandler Markets

Elissa Local GreensThe Greens candidate for Bonner, Elissa Jenkins, will be available to meet with local residents at the Chandler Markets this Sunday, August 29.
Aiming to attend the markets on a fortnightly basis up until election day, Elissa said the markets were a great way to find out what’s happening in the area.

It seems like the election will either be October or November now, so the 4am starts over a long period might be hard yakka, but it’s well worth the effort.

It was a great forum to listen to people’s concerns and the information I received from those who came up and chatted last fortnight was invaluable.

It has given me a taste of what it really means to be a federal representative – and that mainly involves keeping my ear to the ground, she said. Elissa invites local residents to pop in and say hello on Sunday August 29 from 6am to 1pm.

For more information about Elissa's campaign visit http://www.elissa.info.
