 | Paul Lucas MP: BAYSIDE SCHOOLS TO GET COMPUTERS & INTERNET CABLING |
Seven Bayside schools with the greatest need for extra information and communication technology (ICT) resources will benefit under a special computer and Internet cabling program, State Member for Lytton, Paul Lucas, has announced.
Mr Lucas said the schools would receive a total of 61 computers between now and mid next year.

Bayside high schools will benefit from wide-ranging reforms to Queensland’s education and training systems, the State Member for Lytton, Paul Lucas, said.
Mr Lucas has welcomed the release of the Government’s Education and Training Reforms for the Future: A White Paper, which outlines major changes to the sectors.
Premier Peter Beattie, Education Minister Anna Bligh and Employment, Training and Youth Minister Matt Foley announced the historic Smart State reforms on Monday (Nov 25), which will give 15, 16 and 17-year-olds more flexibility and choice to achieve a senior certificate or vocational education qualifications.

 | Paul Lucas MP: Bayside School Wins National Award |
The State Member for Lytton, Paul Lucas, has congratulated Manly State School on winning a State Achievement Award in the National Literacy and Numeracy Week awards.
The school was one of 13 across Queensland to win a national or state award.
Education Minister Anna Bligh praised each of the schools and presented awards to the state’s top 10 achievers at a special ceremony in Brisbane at the close of National Literacy and Numeracy Week.

 | Paul Lucas MP: STATE GRANTS FOR BAYSIDE ORGANISATIONS |
The State Member for Lytton, Paul Lucas, is delighted with the news that Bayside community groups are set to receive a $75,000 state government funding windfall.
Mr Lucas said six community groups in the Bayside had been awarded funding in the September round of grants for the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
“Under this round, various local clubs will get funding for items such as new computer equipment and wheelchair access,” Mr Lucas said.

State Parliament has passed new legislation this week that enables the confiscation of vehicles by police in cases where motorists participate in illegal drag racing and/or drive dangerously.
The State Member for Lytton, Paul Lucas, said the new laws, which will commence in the coming months, would empower authorities to confiscate vehicles used for hooning for a period of 48 hours following a first offence

New statistics have revealed a dramatic reduction in the incidence of graffiti in Brisbane’s Bayside.
State Member for Lytton, and chairman of the Wynnum-Manly Graffiti Taskforce, Paul Lucas, has released police statistics which show a drop of more than 50% in graffiti vandalism in the area in the past year.
“This is a terrific result for the Bayside, and importantly for the rest of the state,” Mr Lucas said.

 | Paul Lucas MP: BAYSIDE UNDER SEIGE! COUNTER TERRORIST TRAINING EXERCISE |
The State Member for Lytton, Paul Lucas, has warned Baysiders not to be alarmed by an influx of military to the area next month.
Mr Lucas says counter terrorist training will be conducted on Whyte Island during August 6-8, in an exercise called “August Moon”.
“Baysiders may notice some extra activity in the region during these few days, but I can assure them it will be nothing to worry about” Mr Lucas said.
