 David Kirkpatrick ( Slim Dusty )

MusicAustralian country music singer Slim Dusty the voice of the bush has died age 76. Slim died early Friday 19th Sept 2003 losing his battle against cancer. Slim was born David Gordon Kirkpatrick in 1927 in the coastal town of Kempsey and grew up on a dairy farm near Nulla Nulla Creek. At 10 he wrote his first song "The Way The Cowboy Dies" changing his name to Slim Dusty some years later.
Slim's trade mark song "A Pub With No Beer" was recorded in 1958, he has sold some 6 million records in Australia and has recorded 105 albums, he was recording his 106th album when he died.
Who could forget Slim Dusty singing "Waltzing Matilda" at the 2000 Sydney Olympics to a world audience.
Slim Dusty a Great Australian Icon is a true loss.
"Its lonesome away from kindred and all By the campfire at night, where the wild dingoes call But there’s nothing so lonesome, so Morbid or drear than to stand in a bar, of a Pub with No Beer."
